Energy certification

We handle the energy certification of buildings or complete energy audits based on commissioning. The work of our Building Energy Certification Expert certified architects, civil engineers and HVAC engineers is aided by modern diagnostic tools (thermal imaging cameras, Blower-door units, data loggers). Our experts successfully resolve even those cases that are larger or more complicated than the average.

Some thoughts on the energy certification of buildings

After TNM (Minister without Portfolio) Regulation 7/2006. (V. 24.) entered into force, it took until mid-2008 for Government Decree 176/2008. (VI. 30.) on the Certification of Energetic Characteristics of Buildings, to come out. The certification is based on the overall energy performance of buildings: the energy performance is characterized by the ratio of the total energy index of the tested building and the total energy index of the reference building expressed in percentages. (The reference building will meet the effective requirement level, and it has the same geometric characteristics and intended use as the tested building.)

The total energy performance of the building is: the amount of energy actually consumed, or estimated as necessary to satisfy the various demands in relation to the intended standard use of the building, which represents the energy consumption of the building expressed in primary energy per area (kWh/m2), that is comprised of the following:

  • heating and ventilation heat consumption (building shell and ventilation losses),
  • utilized portion of power gain,
  • power consumption of fans and pumps,
  • power consumption of domestic hot water production,
  • power consumption of lighting,
  • gain from active solar and photovoltaic systems,
  • gains from cogeneration.

The overall energy performance requirement depends on the use of the building and the surface / volume ratio.
The numerical value of the overall energy performance of buildings may not exceed the value expressed in a calculating equation as a function of the building surface to volume ratio and intended method of use, and in the form of a diagram.

The letter designations and text descriptions of the possible energy ratings are in Table 1.

C 96-100 Meeting the criteria
D 101-120 Close to the criteria
E 121-150 Better than average
F 151-190 Average
G 191-250 Close to the average
H 251-340 Poor
